History

Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. is the first Asian-interest sorority founded in Georgia and the Southeast. In the Spring of 1998, twelve young ladies from the University of Georgia decided to dedicate their efforts to promoting sisterhood and Asian awareness among Asian American women and those interested in Asian culture. With this goal in mind, the sorority was officially established on April 2, 1998. Since then, Alpha Sigma Rho has expanded and has become an integral part of the multicultural community at the University of Georgia as well as across the nation.

Philanthropy

The sisters of Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. strongly believe in continued dedication towards community service. It is an important tradition of Alpha Sigma Rho to actively participate in not only small and wide-scale service projects but also long-term, committed projects as well. Giving back to the community has been an excellent and rewarding experience for us.

Our national philanthropy is the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) and every year in September, the sisters come together to host fundraisers and many seminars to spread awareness. Alpha Chapter has broken a record and raised over $2,000 for NOCC in 2023!

Our annual spring philanthropy show, Cultural Fusion, features various student organizations' performances while raising money for our chapter philanthropy One Sky Foundation, which funds orphanages overseas.

In recognition of our dedication to philanthropy, Alpha Sigma Rho was selected as the winner of the Outstanding Philanthropy Award in 2022 and 2024!

Academic Execellence

As sisters of ASR, our vision is achievement of academic excellence as well as interpersonal growth, moral development, and strength in unity. Our sorority has achieved just that!

Alpha Sigma Rho was selected as the recipient of the Jere W. Morehead Academic Excellence Award in 2024 and the Outstanding Scholarship Program Award in 2023 and 2024.
